Foundation Stage Two

Miss Wilcock and Mrs Manning

Hello and a warm and smiley welcome to Foundation Stage. In our very exciting setting the children have the choice of a variety of activities throughout the classrooms and the outdoor area. We encourage the children to be independent learners: developing their skills across all seven areas of learning. We are very passionate about having fun and learning through exciting opportunities.

The children in Foundation Stage all enjoy learning together and we are a very friendly bunch. We have wonderful classroom areas full of continuous provision for us to use and you will always find us exploring new resources and doing our best in all the areas. There are lots of quiet and peaceful places for our children to have some quite time and reflect. Our outdoor classroom is always popular and is fantastic fun; come rain or shine you’ll find us learning outside learning more about our world. We love to be creative with lots of singing and art, we love to help others and share. The children in Foundation Stage love to be independent and extend their own learning.

We love visitors and welcome you anytime, come and see your children at their best!

Over this half term we will be looking at "Dark Nights and Sparkly Lights." This includes all things that shimmer and shine. We love looking at Bonfire Night, Diwali, Remembrance Day and all things Christmas. The children have already started this topic and are loving creating fireworks out of lots of different media. We will be having a cosy PJ day to finish our topic with hot chocolate and home made biscuits.

During this half term the children are mastering numbers to 10. We are find one more/less, adding, subtracting and ordering. We will also be measuring and looking at 2D shapes closer to Christmas.

Literacy and Phonics

In literacy our main stories will be the owl who was afraid of the dark, noisy nativity, stickman, the naughty elf and lots of other Christmas stories. The children will be doing lots of different work such as writing words, labels, speech bubbles for the characters and much more. We also will be writing the most important letter of the year and posting them at the post office sending them on there way to the North Pool. The children will to be learning to form each grapheme (letter) correctly, label pictures and begin to write simple sentences using punctuation.

Phonics happens daily within Foundation Two and is aimed at the levels of all children. We follow Read, Write Inc at Travis and this ensure that all children's phonics needs are met. Children are currently working on speed sounds and learning how to blend and segment.

Within F2, we ensure that reading is at the heart of our learning and is embedded within all aspects of the school day. We take pride in helping the children on their journey to becoming confident readers. It is important that all children have their book bags in school everyday and change their own individual reading books. The children will have opportunities daily to hear stories read by adults, this is very important as it instills the love of stories within children. Reading is an essential life skill and we strive to ensure every child is a reader as they leave Foundation Stage. All reading books match the children's phonics knowledge so that children are confident with they books they are reading.
