Curriculum
The school curriculum offer is broad, balanced and ambitious for all children. It reflects all areas of the National Curriculum but it also includes some extra activities and learning opportunities that enhance and widen children’s experiences.
Our curriculum is designed so that children know more, remember more and can do more over time.
Since we first began to design our curriculum in 2017, we have refined and further developed it. This has been both as a response to the Covid pandemic and also to improve it, build in assessment and clarity of pedagogy. You can see the curriculum journey we have been on here.
Our vision is to develop an inclusive curriculum which promotes and achieves excellence, and continues to nurture the values, confidence and knowledge of pupils, staff and the community, in order to meet the emerging opportunities of the 21st century.
We have planned a curriculum that is real, relevant and riveting for our pupils. We focus on giving pupils the knowledge they need to be lifelong, independent learners through an engaging, creative curriculum that values excellence in all subjects.
We take an evolving approach to the way we design and deliver our curriculum to ensure that it is aspirational and engages all stakeholders. We want a curriculum that gives access to the right opportunities, experiences and support to ensure that all children achieve. Our curriculum has a collective moral purpose where good quality relationships are developed involving high levels of trust, honesty, mutual respect and British values. It is a partnership that creates space and opportunities to enable innovative working that promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school, and prepares our children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
We have a values based curriculum that places Travis at the centre of learning to create an ‘enabling environment’, where collaboration with St Lawrence Church, local businesses, heritage and cultural organisations, voluntary groups and parents, can flourish for the benefit of our children.
EYFS
In F1 and F2 the children engage in a range of topics, which promote engagement with learning. EYFS follow the Early Years Curriculum, which is delivered through the different topics. These may change each year, depending on the needs and interests of each cohort.
KS1 and KS2
In years 1 to 6, children follow a curriculum based on the knowledge of the National Curriculum which has been designed by staff to meet the needs of our children at Travis.
Children in Y3/4 have a two year rolling cycle, due to mixed cohort classes.
Please see the document below, which outlines the curriculum areas covered.
