Foundation Stage 1 - Nursery
Hello and a big welcome to Foundation Stage 1, better known as ‘Rainbow Nursery!’ Our dream team is made up of Mrs Fuller (Teacher) and Mrs McKay (Teaching assistant). Here in Nursery, we aim to create a friendly atmosphere where children feel happy, safe and secure and are excited to learn. We provide a stimulating learning environment both inside and outside which gives children the opportunities to be creative and imaginative. We encourage children to be independent learners, making their own decisions and developing their skills across all areas of learning in the foundation stage curriculum. We offer a skills-based approach to learning where we use our continuous provision to enable children to develop in areas, for example, physical, communication, mathematics. This provides opportunities to work on, consolidate and set challenges using everyday resources like scissors, building blocks and natural resources such as pebbles, sticks and shells. Most of all we want the children to enjoy their first experiences in nursery and to ultimately have fun!
Our outdoor classroom is always a popular place to be! The outdoor area is an extension of our classroom. It has a generous space to explore and strengthen those core muscles and deepen their co-ordination and apply their spacial awareness skills. Come rain or shine you’ll find us learning outside, building dens, making mud pies in the mud kitchen, using the bikes and climbing equipment! Remember to send your child with clothing appropriate for the time of year! From sunhats in Summer to woolies in Winter and Waterproofs for all year round! Our area is shared with the reception classes, making it a hive of activity for socialising and maintaining those relationships past and present. We incorporate gardening projects to learn and understand more about our natural world. From planting sunflower seeds to noticing the changes of seasons, we take every opportunity to observe and discover our living world; with creatures great and small, we respect and protect all who we share it with, from the humble bumble bee to the tall trees that surround and shelter us.
As parents you play a very important role in your child's development. Before your child starts school, they have already been laying the foundations for learning. Throughout their life, children will continue to learn new things and go through transition periods. Starting nursery and going into school life is one of those transitional periods; a new journey that your child will take, with yourselves supporting and guiding them on their way. We believe early years are fundamental to laying the foundations to having a positive attitude to learning for the future.
If you have any questions, concerns or queries we are more than happy to answer these. We believe in working in partnership with you to meet the needs of your child. Our partnerships starts when Parents new to school are invited to attend a ‘welcome meeting’ to meet the nursery staff, check out our classroom and discover all what we do. To maintain regularly communication once your child starts nursery, we use an effective communication app Class ‘Dojo.’ We will let you know past and present learning moments and up and coming future activities and events. The children have their own virtual DoJo character and ‘feed’ these points, done by promoting positive learning behaviour. It's also an easy way for you to get in touch. It is secure and personal to our school and provides information in an easy-to-use format. This virtual way of working is in addition to the face-to-face discussions done on a daily basis! Please arrange a visit so we can showcase our fantastic Rainbow nursery! You’ll be amazed at how much we can pack into a day!
This is what we will be learning throughout the year -
